Empath Archetypes Part Two: The Healer
The Healer Empath Archetype is the pure emotional intuitive.
More than any other Empath type, the Healer feels the emotions of others. They have a strong drive to step in and take away your pain. They provide comfort. They are the people who know how to say the right thing, and when it’s best to say nothing at all.
Luckily for the rest of us,
many Empaths fit this archetype.
They can be found enriching, fostering, and nurturing others in almost any job or career. But Healers are especially adept and natural counselors, therapists, ministers, coaches, bodyworkers, naturopaths, and nurses. Healers thrive and excel when they are accessing their potential for deep connection and compassion.
They are the parents, friends or partners who are always there for you. They know what you need before you even think to ask.
When you are sad or suffering, they create a safe space for you to openly express your experience. They have an innate ability to help you begin to transform your pain into wisdom, your hardship into useful life experience.
The Healer Empath is an emotional alchemist.
The Healers in your life likely have no idea that their presence is so transformative. They don’t appreciate the fact that they said exactly what you needed to hear, showed up at the perfect time with your favorite comfort food, or suggested the one activity that could cheer you up. They don’t appreciate it because it comes so naturally.
But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy on them.
Many Healers feel driven to try to save everyone, everywhere, all the time. Since this is impossible, it can lead to burn out, exhaustion, or bouts of hopelessness. They share this tendency with the Warrior (Learn more about the Warrior Empath Archetype here).
If a Healer doesn't have a developed sense of self-awareness, they tend to absorb too much of the emotions from those around them. If they don’t find a way to let it go, all that excess emotional energy can build up, becoming overwhelming.
They can start to feel like they’re trudging through a landscape of deep, energetic, emotional mud. Exhausting.
As with all Empaths, mindfulness and self-awareness are essential. It's also important for Healers to get lots of physical activity, which gets energy unstuck and moving.
Time spent in nature, with animals, or in the garden, is important. Learning to work with Chakras and Reiki energy is often great for Healers!
Most of all, the Healer needs to remember to put themselves first on their own list.
Ok…As I wrote that last line, I could almost feel the Healers’ discomfort at the idea of putting themselves first. But it's true. If they're going to continue to take care of everyone else, they need to take care of themselves too!
Burnout is real. Exhaustion is common. But neither is necessary.
It’s not cold to set boundaries and say “no” sometimes. It’s not selfish for Healers to pay attention to their own needs and practice self-care on a regular basis. On the contrary, this is how they stay healthy and happy and sane, so they can continue to make the world a better place with their caring and compassionate presence.✪
