Empath Archetypes Part Four: The Mystic
The Mystic Empath is the seer, the Oracle, living in the space between this world and the beyond.
Mystic Empaths experience a deep and direct connection to source--or the divine. They may they spend their time working in spirituality and mysticism, or in the sciences, teaching, business, research, or the creative or healing arts. But, whatever they do, their ultimate focus is generally on some mystical, spiritual, or higher purpose, that is unseen--and generally misunderstood--by the most of the world.
Being highly intuitive, some Mystics even develop psychic abilities and a deep understanding of the paranormal or the “other side.” Because of this, they often feel the need to keep many of their thoughts to themselves. They fear that if they share even a portion of what they are sensing, the people around them might think they're crazy.
They live in a state of wonder at the very improbability of our existence. Because of this, they often feel grateful and amazed by things others see as ordinary.
There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though everything is a miracle.
- Albert Einstein
The Mystic Empath sometimes seems to embody the phrase “head in the clouds,” and can have trouble grounding. They can be out of touch with their own bodies, which can begin to feel like something separate from themselves. Many Mystics describe the perception of energetically floating above themselves--as opposed to feeling rooted within their physical forms.
Grounding meditations, mindful eating, and massage therapy can create more connection between Mystic Empaths and their physical reality.
They benefit from walking barefoot on the earth, or lying on the ground, letting it absorb and balance excess charged energy.
As with all Empaths, alone time, mindfulness, self-awareness, and time in nature, or with animals, are essential. The Mystic shares many traits and tendencies with the Creator Empath Archetype. Both have antennas that are so numerous and sensitive, it can be overwhelming at times. They need to be careful not to numb their sensitivities too often with drugs, alcohol, and other potentially problematic distractions (Learn more about the Creator Empath Archetype here).
Many Mystic Empaths find themselves living at odds with the values and priorities of western culture.
They consistently seek wisdom, enlightenment, and transcendence above all else, and often lead minimalist or seemingly unrooted lives.
Mystics happily spend much of their time in solitude and show only marginal interest in material concerns, legacy, or status. They can't bring themselves to care much about conventional ideas of ambition or success.
This can easily leave them feeling misunderstood, out of place, or even alien.
It’s a huge relief for a Mystic Empath to find an occasional kindred soul.
This is comforting and affirming, and enables them to openly share their thoughts and experiences. Even so, there will be very few who share their path, and they will often feel like an "other" in many ways, even with friends and family.
But the Mystic knows they are never truly alone. They can sense the universal and divine connection between us, and beyond. All will be well for them if they can learn to trust in this connection, and trust in themselves.✪
